Of all days…why did it have to happen today?

That was what Kaida thought as she lay in her bed, the covers up to her chin. A terrible cold had forced her to stay at home, much to her dismay. For it was the same day the movie she had been planning to see with Miyoko was showing. But no! It pained Kaida that she couldn’t go and enjoy that alone time with Miyoko she had been desiring since day one.

Kaida groaned and pulled her blankets higher, snuggling under them.

Could this day get any worse?

“Guess who came to visit?”

Kaida’s eyes opened wide, staring at the grinning face of her Aunt Saisei, or Professor Saisei, as she liked to be called by her peers.

“!!” Kaida could only exclaim under her covers.

“Look how excited she is to see me?” Aunt Saisei smiled, standing in her white lab coat glory. “I’m sure she feels loads better already with me here!”

“Could you try to keep it down?” Kaida’s mom, Kagura sighed. “She’s got a bad cold so she needs lots of rest…and no loud noises…”

“Oh, I know she does,” Saisei leaned over her niece, adjusting her glasses. “But no worries, I can have her feeling as right as a Chrysanthemum leucanthemum in no time at all!”

Kaida stared blankly.

“NO,” Kagura said sternly. “I will NOT have you giving her those…those odd potions or experiments or whatever as long she’s under my care.”

“Fine, do it the normal, boring way,” Saisei huffed. “But I’m just saying…”

“Bup-bup!” Kagura interrupted. “None of that ‘mad scientist’ business, you hear? God, it’s hard to believe you’re related to Taira and Mrs. Sakaki sometimes…”

“Mother says I get it from our uncle,” Saisei smiled broadly.

Kagura blinked. “You have an uncle? I never knew!”

“Yes, we do, funny story…” Saisei chuckled.

“No, no, I don’t need to hear it,” Kagura shook her head. “Let’s just go, Kaida needs her rest.”

“Indeed,” Saisei said as they left the bedroom. “Plus, there’s few things I’d like to talk over with you about your relationship with my little sister…”

“Oh man, not this again…”

Kaida was still in her bed, simply staring off into space as her mind was occupied by daydreams when her mom came back, sitting by her side.

“Kaida,” Kagura sighed, stroking her hair. “I have to go out for a moment so your aunt’ll be in charge of you till I return.”

Kaida looked at her with such abject horror that she quickly added. “I’ll be back before you know it, I promise! Aunt Saisei won’t do anything weird to you.”

Her daughter relaxed at this but still was apprehensive. She too well remembered that ‘lust potion’ incident where…well, that’s another story. But the memory of it just made her shudder, she didn’t want to experience any more of Saisei’s odd experiments, ever! Just let me live as a normal, happy student crushing on her greatest love, thank you very much…

“Oh,” Kagura said, snapping Kaida out of her thoughts. “A friend came over to drop off your homework.”

Friend?

Kaida lowered her bed covers, smiling and blushing slightly.

Could it be…?

“Look, here she is!” her mom grinned.

Kaida leaned to the side, stretching to see who was now standing in her doorway.

“Hi Kaida,” Hannah said, holding up a paper packet. “I brought your homework, Miss Osaka asked me to.”

And thusly Kaida’s dream world came crashing down.

Meanwhile, Saisei was in the kitchen where she seemed to be putting a couple of soup cans into order. But they were not soup cans, they were actually cleverly disguised potions that she had snuck into the house under Kagura’s nose. She was planning to test one of them on her niece as soon as Kagura left.

“She may not like it,” Saisei cackled. “But I’m sure she’ll lighten up once she sees that I’ve cured the common cold!”

She started to laugh but stopped herself in time just as her sister-in-law was coming down the stairs. “Oh, hello Kagura!”

“Hey…” Kagura replied. “Hey! Those aren’t your weird potions, are they?”

“No!!!” Saisei gasped innocently. “Those are normal soup cans, I’m thinking I’ll give Kaida a nice bowl of hot soup to help her cold.”

Kagura smiled. “That’s really considerate of you…well, I’m on my way, see you later and no weird stuff on my kid while I’m gone.”

“Got it,” Saisei was still smiling as Kagura left.

Once she was gone and safely out of earshot, Saisei returned to her potions. “Now…here comes the fun part…but I’d better be careful…can’t go repeating the incident with the Lust Potion #10, after all…”

She shuddered. “Boy, dear niece was never the same ever again…it’s a good thing nobody else remembers it.”

“Oh dear, you look awful,” Hannah murmured as she sat on the edge of Kaida’s bed, staring at her.

Kaida groaned, clutching her packet. Why couldn’t it have been Miyoko instead? I want her caring attention, not the bossy blonde’s!

“Hmm…” Hannah rubbed her chin then perked up. “Oh! I just remembered this remedy Grandma Mary had when I was sick, it’ll clear you right up! Give me a moment.”

As she hurried out of the bedroom, Kaida let out another audible groan. Why? Why her!?

“Now…where do they keep the soup…” Hannah mused as she came downstairs and stepped into the kitchen. “Ah, there they are!”

She stepped over to the counter where potions disguised as soup cans rested, not knowing that Saisei had left them there while she went to look for the necessary antidotes in the guest room.

Hannah picked up the cans, looking at their labels. “Hmm…vegetable soup…tomato soup…I believe I’ll go with the classic chicken soup, hope they won’t mind if I make some for Kaida.”

So then she searched through the cabinets where she took out a pot and set it on the stove, pouring the ‘chicken soup’ into it.

“Humph, that’s an odd color,” Hannah looked at the clear solution curiously. “Oh well, must be a special ingredient.”

After cooking it, she poured it all into a bowl.

“Smells great,” Hannah inhaled the steam from the potion soup. “I’d better give it a taste test too.”

After taking few spoonfuls, she sighed. “Excellent, now to bring this up to Kaida.”

Kaida was fiddling with her homework when Hannah stepped in, carrying a tray of soup.

“Here you go,” she said, setting it down on Kaida’s lap. “One nice warm chicken soup for you.”

“Uh…thanks…” Kaida mumbled as she took a sip. “Oh…this is good…”

She immediately drank it whole, oblivious to its heat. “Mm…really good…”

Hannah giggled, sitting down on the bed. “It is, isn’t it? Well, in few seconds, your cold should be clearing up…”

She stopped, Kaida tilted her head confusedly.

“I…I feel really weird…” Hannah placed a hand on her stomach. “I…”

She groaned as she bent over, clutching her sides. Kaida watched in mingled interest and worry. “You okay?”

“I…I…” Hannah stuttered as she slid to her knees onto the floor. “I…I really don’t feel so well…”

At that instant, Kaida too felt a sick rumbling in her stomach and keeled over, gasping. And Hannah seemed to be shrinking…why was that? Was that a tail just now? Oh…what was happening?

Around her, the room seemed to grow large…she felt her clothes becoming more loose with each second…it was such a blur…

Only when did her stomach stop rumbling did her vision become clear but to her shock, she could only see in shades of gray! Oh no! Have I gone color-blind?

Only when she found herself struggling out of her tiger-striped pajamas and noted a strange soft coat of some sort covering her entire body, did it click for her. The fact Hannah had become a Siamese cat with blond hair proved her suspicions.

“Ack!” she screeched, looking over her new body in a panic. “How did this happen!?”

“Ah,” Kaida climbed off the bed, tripping over her newly-formed paws as she went to look in a mirror. “Oh, I’m a puppy…”

Indeed, she was now a cute black terrier pup with big floppy ears, still wearing her signature blue Dad cap.

“What do we do?” Hannah mewled from behind. “Was that soup contaminated or something!?”

Right…Aunt Saisei has to be behind this…Kaida nodded in thought. I have to find her and see if she can fix this…

“Uh oh, your cat,” Hannah whispered suddenly.

Kaida glanced back. Indeed, there was plump Mayaa crouching in a corner. And he didn’t look pleased.

“M-Mayaa…it’s me…” Kaida stuttered.

But it was no good; Mayaa crouched and leapt…as good as a fat cat could leap. They fled out of the room, the Iriomote cat hissing after them.

Still not used to running on four legs, they both tumbled down the stairs; yowling and yelping with pain.

“I’m out of here!” Hannah screeched, pushing away from Kaida.

“Wait, my aunt…” Kaida started but she was long gone, having darted outside onto the streets. “Oh…”

She looked around worriedly. I can’t just let her go out like this…we need my aunt’s help…

So she had no choice but to venture outside as well.

“Oh, honestly!” Hannah huffed as she rounded a corner and sat down, licking her paw. “Just what is going on…”

She paused, staring at her paw. “Did I just…oh! This is all too much! Am I going to be stuck like this forever?”

She sighed, pacing back and forth. “No! This can’t happen! Tomcats are NOT my type!”

As she walked around, she heard footsteps and looked back to see Seiko and her little brother, Koji coming her way.

“Ah! They can’t see me like this!” Hannah glanced around nervously. “This is embarrassing!”

Too late, Koji saw her. “Ah! A kitty!”

He ran over to her and reached out to pet her, Hannah shrank back. “Not the hair!”

But all that came out of her mouth was a meow to the human ears, Koji still pet her. “It’s cute!”

Hannah moaned at her fur being mussed up by his hand but did nothing, he was a sweet young boy and she didn’t hurt sweet young boys.

“I think it likes it!” Koji smiled back at his older sister. “Can we bring it back home?”

“I dunno…” Seiko scratched her head. “I really don’t like cats…”

“Come on!” Koji whined. “Please! I’ll take really good care of it! I won’t let it come into your room or anything! PLEASE!?”

Seiko groaned. “Fine…whatever…but it’s not my say, we’ll see what our parents think.”

“Yay!!!” Koji smiled then he picked up Hannah which freaked her.

“Agh!!! Body violation! Violation! Violation!” she struggled. But all that came out was just loud cat screeching.

After a while, she saw it no use to try to escape as Koji’s grip was too strong so she hung limp in his arms as they headed for the Kigokoro household.

I wonder where Kaida is…

“Hannah! Hannah!” Kaida barked as she tottered down the road but no answer from the kitten. “Aw…where’d she go?”

She sat down, panting. Man, I’m getting tired…

“Oh…are you lost, little puppy?” said a familiar voice.

Kaida’s ears perked up and she turned to see Miyoko hovering over her, smiling as always. Better yet, she could smell the strawberries on her.

“Mm…” Kaida sighed.

Then Miyoko picked her up, Kaida’s fur bristled at her touch. Oh!!! She’s picking me up!!!

“You’re cute,” Miyoko giggled as she cradled Kaida in her arms, tickling under her chin. Kaida was in absolute bliss. I’m in heaven! This is the best day of my life!

“Let’s take you home,” Miyoko said as she headed down the path towards her house, the puppy swooning in her arms all the way.

“Here’s your new home, kitty!” Koji said as he set down Hannah on the carpet of Seiko’s bedroom. Apparently she had decided it wouldn’t hurt to allow the cat there as well.

“We don’t know that for sure,” Seiko muttered.

“So…this is your room…” Hannah stared at the shelves packed with video games and the Playstation and Wii in front of the large television. “Nice.”

Then Seiko picked her up, she didn’t have time to react.

Seiko held the kitten high in air, this position was…well, awkward…

“Uh…what are you doing?” Hannah mewed shyly, looking down at Seiko.

“Let’s see whether this cat’s a guy or gal,” Seiko commented, squinting. “…No balls…must be a girl.”

If it was possible for a cat to blush tomato red, that’s what Hannah would have been doing.

“PERV!!!!!!!!!!!!” she screeched, slashing at her face.

“YEOW!” Seiko yelled, grabbing her nose. “Bad kitty!”

“I think you should’ve asked her permission first,” Koji pointed out.

Hannah snorted, raising her tail in an aloof way as she circled atop Seiko’s bed. Serves you right.

Seiko just scoffed, releasing her bloody nose as she crouched down to look at Hannah. “You know…she looks a lot like that bossy Hannah…I know, let’s call her Princess Hannah!”

“Princess?” Hannah tilted her head.

“Yeah,” Seiko chuckled then she reached out to pet her. “Good Princess…”

“Oh no, you don’t,” Hannah arched her back at the approaching hand then bit down on it.

“YEOW!!!” Seiko screamed again, sucking her bleeding fingers.

But Koji petted Hannah with ease. “I guess it only likes me.”

“Pah, princess,” Seiko scoffed, massaging her hand.

Hannah smirked smugly. At least, I can get used to the petting…

“Here’s your new home,” Miyoko said as she set down Kaida the puppy on the hardwood floor. “Hey Russ! I brought a new puppy, can we keep it?”

“Well…” her dad started.

“Great! I’ll bring it upstairs to my room!” Miyoko smiled, picking up Kaida again as she hurried up, followed by her shiba inu mix, Ami. “Come on, Ami!”

They reached her bedroom and there Kaida was let go to look around.

Wow…she has a really nice bedroom…she awed at the neat décor.

“Right, are you a little boy or girl?” Miyoko asked, picking up Kaida.

Kaida felt hot in her face as Miyoko did her check over. OHMYGOD!

“Oh! You’re a little girl!” Miyoko giggled, putting her back down. “And look, you’ve got a hat like the one my friend, Kaida has. I think…I’ll call you Little Kaida, you like?”

Kaida wagged her tail in response.

“Ami, do you like the new puppy?” Miyoko faced her dog. Ami’s reply was to lick Kaida’s nose.

“Right, would you like to play, Little Kaida?”

Yes! Kaida crawled up to her, wagging her tail excitedly. Yes Miyoko!

And so Miyoko rolled around the floor with Kaida in her arms, played with a tug toy, and gave her belly rubs.

Yes! Kaida’s tail thumped the carpet as Miyoko scratched behind her ears, completely enjoying this. This is the absolute best! Let it never end!

“Hey, princess!” Seiko waved a pink yarn string in front of Hannah’s face. “Play with this!”

You got to be kidding me… Hannah narrowed her eyes.

“I got a catnip ball!” Koji held it up.

Catnip? Oh no… Hannah trembled. No…resist it…you must resist it!

No good; Hannah immediately pounced on the ball, her tail whisking about rapidly.

“Oh god…I have no self-control…” Hannah groaned in disgust but alas, the power of the catnip was too alluring for her now kitten form.

“I have a collar too!” Koji added, holding up a red collar.

Before Hannah could protest, it was already on her.

“Hmm…” she checked in a nearby mirror, admiring the collar. “Well, you’ve got good taste…I could really get used to this here…if I’m going to be a cat forever, I guess.”

“Hey Princess,” Seiko suddenly picked her up. “Cut the big sister some slack, I’m going to play with you and you’ll like it!”

“Why do I smell something that smells like one of my potions was just cooked and then consumed?” Saisei murmured as she walked back into the kitchen. Then she saw the open can and the pot on the stove.

“Uh oh…better check on my niece!” Saisei hurried upstairs to Kaida’s room and found no sign of her or the blonde. She did notice that the only thing left of them were their clothes.

“No girls and yet there are their clothes…could this mean…”

She went back downstairs and checked the opened can’s label. “Yup, it figures, they’ve mistaken the potion that turns people into animals that best fits their personality for chicken soup.”

She then adjusted her glasses, peering at the smaller print. “Oh yes, I remember, the effects are temporary…Temporary!”

She dropped the can and quickly paced around the counter. “Okay, okay, don’t panic…so there are naked girls on the run in their animal forms…I’m sure I can find them before anything embarrassing happens to them and Kagura finds out…now, if I was a Kaida puppy, where would I go?”

Like a light bulb, her mind clicked to an idea. “Of course! It’s so obvious!”

And she made her dash to find her missing niece before the effects could wear off.

“You sure like having your tummy rubbed, don’t you?” Miyoko giggled as she petted Kaida.

The puppy’s tail wagged even faster, she was in complete bliss. Nothing could mess this dream up, nothing!

Then it happened

“WHOAH!!!!!” Miyoko yelled, falling back against the wall in shock. Ami howled.

“Have no fear! Your Aunt Saisei is here to prevent your embarrassment from happening!” Saisei suddenly barged into the room then she looked at Kaida. “Oh…looks like I got here bit late, lil’ niece.”

“Huh? What’s wrong?” Kaida asked confusedly.

“You might want to look at yourself,” Saisei chuckled.

So Kaida did…and nearly died on the spot. She was her human self again but there was just one thing…no clothes. And Miyoko in the same room!

“On the bright side, your cold’s gone!” Saisei said helpfully.

Kaida yelped, covering herself. Can this get any worse?

Then the door opened up again and Russ looked. “Miyoko, that lady…”

He fell quiet, complete silence filled the room. Then the door slammed shut. Kaida felt like crying. Why!? Why me!?

“Hmm…” Saisei tapped her chin. “Oh right…there was another girl too, I wonder what happened to her?”

She shrugged.

“Oh well, doesn’t matter to me.”

Seiko was on the floor, pure numb shock across her face. On top of her was Hannah - barebacked and human.

“Not peeking! Not peeking!” Koji yelled as he scrambled to get out of the room, covering his eyes. He ran into a wall in the process.

And the only thing Seiko could say at this very awkward moment…

“Damn!”

Hannah twitched.

The sound of a fist slamming into a face resounded throughout the neighborhood.
